Chi and I hopped on the JR on the 4th of July for our journey to Sendai for the FMF regional conference.  We got into Sendai about 5 o'clock or so and checked into the hotel.  We then proceeded to have an excellent Independence Day celebration.  The highlight of the train ride was that the weather had cleared up enough for me to see Fuji from the train!  The picture's not very good, but it's hard to focus at 200 km/hr!

We went to eat at a crab restaurant first.  This place had a cool setup.  Everything was crabs.  The chopstick holders, the ashtrays, the plates.  We had steamed crab, boiled crab, and crab sashimi.  All very good.  Afterwards we went to a karaoke bar, where we entertained a rowdy crowd of 3 complete strangers.  We finished off the night by going to a sushi bar for a snack and some other place that I couldn't quite figure out what it was.

The next day we awoke just in time to get lost on our way to the conference.  We got lost on foot, by bus, by train, and by subway before Chi decided that a taxi might be a good investment.  We barely made it on time.  It was nice to see all of the Americans again, even if some had to be seen via video conference from Hiroshima.

After the conference Pamela, Chi, and I went out with the New York contingent.  We went to an ancient Samurai castle and did the tourist thing before going out to eat at the sushi restaurant Chi and I went to the night before.  We finished our evening by crowding all 9 of us into the 7 seats at the karaoke bar.  This afternoon and evening has been some of the most fun I've had since arriving in Japan.  I love hanging out with that group of people.  Thank you to Chi, Anexie, Mindy, Toni, Pamela, Kana, Yuki, and Hiroyuki for an awesome time!

By the way, I noticed at dinner the second night that Chi has started a list of the food that I don't like very much.  I thought it was funny, so I took a picture of the list so I could post it here.  You can add chicken sashimi to the list as well. . . It tastes ok, but I just balk at eating raw chicken.  Something about that Salmonella just gets me every time.
