July 7 (Wed) Ms. Seigley and 4th grade children put and hung the Star Festival ornaments on a bamboo tree. Everyone wrote his or her wish on a cart and hung it on the tree. They also enjoyed sharing the Chinese story which is concerned with the Star Festival. |

Ms. Seigley is talking about the Halloween. ・ The origin of the Halloween ・ The costumes of the festival ・ A phrase when they go around their neighborhood is "Trick or treats." Ms. Beth explained about these things. |

A guest teacher who lives in our school boundary came and told the children
about the Star Festival. He and his wife made those pictures specially
for them. They were so beautiful. (look at the left photo.) He told them about the origin and integration of the stories that related to the Star Festival, what the Star Festival event of children was like when he was a young kid, for example, phrases, songs, lanterns and costumes when they went around theis neighborhood. |

| 子供たちは、２つの異なる国の行事を聞いて、 似ていることや違いについて考えました。 その後、地域の方とヤフーメッセンジャーを 使ってTV会議を行いました。 この授業を通して、日米両方が今後のプロ ジェクトをどう進めていくか、また、それをどう 伝え合うかイメージを持つことができました。 この授業は、市の講座となっており、参観され た各校の先生方もMTPの取り組みを知ってい ただくよい機会になったと思います。 |
The children learned differences and similarities between two festivals
of two countries. After that, they had a TV conference with another guest teacher through the Yahoo Messenger. They also could figure out through that lesson how the project will go and how they exchange with the messenger what they learn in the project with American students. That lesson was also observed by a lot of teachers from other schools as a seminar which Kushiro Educational Research Center provides for all teachers in Kushiro county. It was a good opportunity to let them know what the MTP is like. |

| その日の晩に、地域先生に教わった方法で、 近所を巡り歩きました。これは、北海道でも一 部の地域にしか残っていない行事で、子供た ちにとっても貴重な体験になりました。 ベス先生も、浴衣で参加しました。 |
In the evening of that day, some children and teachers including Ms. Seigley in her KIMONO went around our school's heighborhood in the way that the guest teacher told them. They enjoyed themselves very much. The children's events of the Star Festival in communities like this are disappearing for these decades. |
